92% Growth in GPS enabled handsets - set to continue to grow exponentially through 2014.

According to a new research report by Berg Insight, global shipments of GPS-enabled GSM/WCDMA handsets increased 92 percent in 2009 to 150 million units. Growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 38.7 percent, shipments are forecasted to reach 770 million units in 2014. GPS technology is now essentially a standard feature on all new smartphone models, making GPS related applications, like the new BerryTracking service, a significant revenue generating opportunity for wireless dealers and carriers.

With this expansion of GPS enabled handsets,  tremendous new opportunities now exist to upsell and drive incremental revenue from existing clients with previously unknown solutions. In a wireless market where usage penetration rates near saturation, GPS tracking solutions promise to be a critical area for continued strong growth.

Additionally, GPS functionality will not be limited to high end smartphones. In fact, Berg Insight anticipates high GPS attach rates in many new low-cost smartphones while it will continue to be common among mid-range feature phone models through 2010.  With a powerful, easy to use application supporting various OS models, and plans to extend the service into all other popular smartphone models, "companies with operational products" are well positioned to capitalize on this growth.

Consumers and businesses alike depend on their wireless representatives and dealers to highlight the solutions available to them and the ROI possibilities across the various applications.
